What we agreed upon during the January 2010 Meeting presided by Audie and Larry.

We are expecting friends from abroad by February right in time for the homecoming. For our batch it will be our 35th year. Our Balikbayans may be arriving as early as 19Feb.

  • Our Party to honor our Friends from abroad will be on February 24, 2010, 6pm. Thanks to Bernadeth Gozum-Lapid who lovingly offered her place to be the venue.
  • It will be an organized potluck, as we will group ourselves to prepare specific dishes and coordinate with the pretty Charito Ocampo-Pena. There are however, commitments on food: Bernadeth will donate the Lechon, Ola will bring shrimps, Larry will take care of the red wine, Charito Miguel-Tuazon will order the favorite sherbet . Kare-kare will surely also be prepared
  • Pledges for cash contributions-big and small, were made. These pledges will be submitted to Bernadeth hopefully until the 12th of February. The proceeds will be our funds for our various expenses. Contributions is still open for everyone
  • Tickets were also sold. Those who can afford bought more, so they can sponsor those who have less. More pledges were made on buying tickets  ( tickets are at 350 pesos)which will be available on the 24th. Bernadeth Gozum-Lapid, our Treasurer, received and will receive payments. Please coordinate with her on any concerns on buying tickets and cash contributions, too.
  • Audie encouraged everyone to help in any way the ever kind Bernadeth in the physical arrangements of her place on the 24th.

The meeting/post Christmas Party last Saturday, 9 January 2010, was a well attended one for our Batch. We were more than 30 that enjoyed the affair. It was really so magulo, with everyone trying to join any group that starts to have pictures taken. We were suddenly all kids misbehavin’ just like how we used to do in high school, laughing, giggling, telling stories and trying to get to know names of familiar faces.

We feasted on the food generously prepared by our hosts, Beng Capati and Mayette Reyes along with Nerissa Cordova, and food brought by friends. Neri (Cordova) was generously offering tea or coffee to everybody. She is really a nurse by heart. Beng and Mayette made sure everyone was having a great time. There was also wine and drinks enjoyed by everyone.

Beng’s house in San Roque Dau, is rather cozy. She toured us around and was saying we are welcome to her place anytime. She also built beside her new house, a branch for her Diagnostic Laboratory conveniently making her services as a Medical Technologist accessible in the area.

Angie Zapanta-Pascual, Leonida Yu and Lou Cervantes and others interspersed in between, various raffled gifts given to everybody. Gifts were courtesy of Ola and Beng Capati. Bernadeth also gave away cute head massagers and perfumes. Thanks ladies!

Ola Mabanta de la Fuente shared everyone photos she took of her and batch 75 friends during her recent US trip. She also made mention Jobeth Limsingian-Vitug is sending boxes of chocolates for the alumni to enjoy during the Homecoming.

The boisterous laughters and crazy mood was later subdued by Asela’s short talk on a more serious topic on spiritual salvation. This was followed by friends sharing how they got to know Christ and His wonderful works in their lives. Angie Z surprised us that she has for a time been teaching Sunday School in her church. She is also giving all the credit of her big and small successes to Christ. There was Mayette Reyes who gave funny accounts on how she shared her faith even to her patients and even quoted the Bible. There was also Ola who talked on how a difficulty in the family led her to the road leading to a spiritual search on the knowledge of Christ by regularly attending Bible studies these days. There was also the shy Leonila who talked about how she overcame her shyness and some problems with her husband as she got to know Christ. Charito Miguel-Tuazon was so candid to tell us how her marriage was tested and how things are much better with her family, attributing it all to her relationship with Christ. We all afterwards, joined hands in prayer, led by Dory Mallari. She prayed for everyone, and asked us to join her and we all prayed aloud. Well, at this age, we cannot help but be serious with our spiritual life. We have to be sure of things in our life, and life eternal is not a joke.

The talks, sharing, and the prayers were prelude to the meeting proper. Larry and Audie presided over  the meeting. Here are the points on what we talked about.

We all hope to make these affairs memorable for everyone. So please let others know and invite them to come and enjoy with us. As was agreed upon - communications will be everybody’s concern. Bring friends and see you 24th and 27th. Also, mark your calendars for  March 1, as we are all invited at Remy Navarro-Montgomery's home in Sasmuan.

Our friendships as classmates extended far beyond high school and college days. We have lived different lives and took different paths. Nevertheless, we do not forget. Our hearts yearn for home and the friends we once had and enjoyed our youth with. E tamu mengalingwan king milabas.

 December 2009

Merry Christmas Batch ’75 and Friends! It is another year to be thankful for the birth of the Son of God. We now finally, are saved and are looking forward to an eternal life after this mortal existence and experiencing the adventure of life on earth as humans created in His likeness and image. All of these are wrapped in a bundle made possible by the Creator and the Savior. The Birth of Christ has made possible a redemption through the Cross of Calvary. Our Lord whose Birth we celebrate, finished the job of saving us all from eternal death. We are now the heirs to the Kingdom, as the Bible says. Our mansions are prepared by Christ who went ahead to prepare them for us for His sake.

 November 2009

manny pacquiao at gnc75

The expected “Pacman Win” happened last Sunday, Nov. 15, here in the Philippines and Saturday, Nov 14, in the USA. The bet was not for the boxer who will win. This time the “pustahan” was how long, rather, how many rounds will the game last. I heard Benny Y got the pot money for betting on the 12th round.

Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao brought not only honor to our country, but has united Filipinos with his candid way of declaring the ideals we have always stood for- love of God, love of country, and love of family. It is almost expected from the Champ to hear him, thank God and the Filipino people, and reiterate his wellspring of inspiration.

The media covered Nanay Dionisia (now known as Mommy D) along with her estranged husband, his siblings and sister-in-law, all happy that Manny requested for their presence. I would always like to think that Manny is firm on keeping his roots and his past, despite all the flaws and imperfections. He is excellent in his sport but as human as any Filipino or anybody for that matter. Hindi ikinahihiya ang pinagdaanan, ‘ika nga.

He can be conceived to be a product of a good manager and got the edge by turning to be the darling of the press, but who cares? He is champ; he works hard, has the X factor (maybe sans the good looks), the charisma, and most of all, Manny is a Filipino. Manny seems to know how to play the game, inside and outside the ring.  We are mighty proud of the Pacman!-jmi

January 20, 2010 - We had another small get-together at our place here in Northridge last Friday. This time it was my turn to cook, not Jun's - it was hard to get him out of the kitchen and make him stay out of it as well, but since it was supposed a German dinner cooked by a real German Jun had to take a step back (lol). I backed an onion-bacon flan for appetizer along with a dry but sweet Riesling, German beer, Rouladen and Spatzle (German/French style beef wrapped around pickles, onions, mustard and bacon, and German pasta), veggies, Maultaschen (Swabian Ravioli / German style won tons in a soup) and for dessert apple tart with Gluhwein (mulled, spiced hot wine). We watched videos and pictures we took when Jun and I were in Germany from December 15 - January 2). JoBeth brought some appetizers as well, so of course as usual we had way too much food left over. I hope everybody enjoyed the food.

It's always great to have JoBeth, Carina and Benny over - we wished KungFu could have made it, but I am sure there will be a next time soon!
